"Healing
Through Sound"

Last month we worked on finding our keynote. Today we are continuing with "Healing Through Sound." All manifestation is created from a unique vibration which is sound and light. "And God spoke the word." All life is based on sound. We are all vibrating and living our own melody.
Some sounds support and build life while others disrupt and destruct breaking down creation. Harmonious sounds support life this is easy to demonstrate just hear a blasting high pitch sound and see how fast everyone will cover their ears. Run a finger over a chalk board, and see everyone quiver. Hear someone whining a lot and everyone around them will become irritated.
Some words in their basic makeup are life supporting and others are not. Words do affect us. The word "No" is not life supporting, and "Yes" is. Saying "yes" to life is so powerful. Try an experiment, and pay attention to how many times a day you say "no" or "yes." Then make it a practice to saying "Yes" as much as you can and see how your life opens up.
Affirmations are powerful because they support life. They are declaring the truth about you and your situation. By nature negative speaking people are living very unhappy depressive lives. Without realizing it they have become used to the energy that feeds off of negativity. It stirs their emotions, and they feel this is life, but in reality it is destroying the basic fabric of life in the body and their relationships. Love sustains and builds while fear breaks down and destroys life.
Although, a short spurt of fear can be life saving for it gets the adrenalin going, lots of energy is rushed through the body to move one quickly from attack. But it one is constantly in a state of being ready for attack this is very hard on the whole bodys nervous system. And, will eventually appear in the body as dis-ease.
Dr. Quimby came to the realization that all disease as doctors were and still are prescribing too is a mistaken belief, and mis-diagnosing their patients. In fact many times condemning their patients to death through their own belief system. When in fact what the patient is experiencing is an emotional reaction to some experience that has localized itself in the body.
In other words, when the person has had an unusually disturbing experience the brain triggers a chemical which then moves into the body causing an out of balance or dis-ease. Realizing what initially caused the initial trigger will release the emotion or stuck energy, and bring back to order. Pain is a signal that one is out of balance, that energy is stuck and needs releasing. Acknowledging what the true problem is about begins the healing process.
Doctors have done some great research in using music to heal. Harmonious sounds balance the emotions, and relaxes, shutting off the fear attack syndrom. While other kinds of disharmony and discordant sounds will induce anger and depression. Depression is anger turned inwards.
Im sure everyone here has their favorite music which every time you hear it you feel uplifted. Many times a favorite song or piece of music has fond memories attached to it. So just hearing it the body responds in a positive note.
We have been told of the ancient healing temples of Greece, Egypt and Atlantis. Within these temples music was used in healing. This has been carried down through the mystery schools in toning prayers and sounds. All religions play music, chant or sing hymns as part of their spiritual ritual.
The Native Americans believed music bridges planes of dimensions, and essential to the demonstration of supernatural powers. As part of the puberty observance the child about 13 years of age was given their own particular "vision song" that the child would sing over and over patiently waiting for a vision of their helper or guide. After initiation, all the child had to do was sing this "vision song" to become conscious of their spirit guide.
Experiments with music to heal the insane were done in the Chicago Hospital. These tests revealed that playing old familiar melodies frequently restored a patient to rational thinking by awakening happy memories.
In Detroit at the Wayne County General Hospital, Dr. Altschuler, used music therapy. His patient had been a gifted pianist, but for eight years in the hospital with no results. The patient began playing and eventually restored his musical abilities, and was moving towards a complete recovery.
During the World War II, the Veterans Administration hospitals throughout the country began using music therapy in many mental cases with marked success. The patients were divided into two groups: the non-responsive and the hyper-active. Professional musicians were called upon by attending physicians to arrange suitable programs for each group.
In 1947, Chicago University medical clinics began to play music during surgery that is piped in from a central room. A Danish hospital has their patients listening to headphones during surgery. Today many dentists have headphones for the patients. It relaxes the patient, and shortens the time in healing.
When my mother was in the hospital, following surgery I would play a healing tape by Stephen Halprin. The doctors were always amazed at how fast she would recover from surgery, and especially at her age. In addition, the nurses enjoyed coming into her room, and did so more frequently and stayed longer. They would make comments on how the room made them feel better.
Other studies revealed in a British prison the positive results of playing uplifting and harmonious music during meals, and at the close of the day, that the inmates would be much more relaxed, and become optimistic with constructive ideas.
Just has harmonious music can dramatically effect the body, so does discordant. Most involved in spiritual sciences will warn of the danger to the mental and physical well being of discordant music, especially with words of anger, depression, and hate. They have dramatic effects on our children.
Azra Simmonetti, who sang at our open house, changes co-dependent words to our popular love songs for more a healthy kind of relationships. This is how she sees a way to make a change in the our world.
Dr. Deepak Chopra, promotes the use of sound in self-healing. He says "The body is the scripture of nature. Sounds are made into molecules, and become the flesh."
Toning letters of the alphabet can affect different parts of the body. Some sounds can even release endorphins, drugs for the body to relax and reduce pain, but without any side effects and in perfect dosage.
The chart I handed out includes some of the traditional Ayurvedic healing sounds. He recommends beginning with vowel sounds. He refers to vowel sounds as non localized, meaning they vibrate in all directions, and may also be directed to certain parts of the body. While consonants are localized sounds of information dedicated to specific regions.
First we shall try the sound "Ah" with your eyes open. Take a deep breath and make the sound "Ah" while exhaling. Begin. Next try with eyes closed feel the difference. You may direct the sound to a location in the body where there is pain, or for emotions to the heart, or for fear to the gut or solar plexis. Again "Ah".
Now "A", "E", "O", "OO" One vowel will be yours that you can more easily direct around in your body this is your primordial sound. You can actually feel that part of your body vibrating to the sound. Eventually you can just think the sound while directing it and get the same result.
Ill conclude with a quote from Professor Donald Hatch Andrew, Musical Scientist of John Hopkins University. He summarizes his conclusions as follows:
"All things in the universe, including you and me, are nothing more than a mass of vibrating waves. All we ever see is the outward shadow of the reality the wave form. That is why it seems to me that the true values in the universe are spiritual values." He concludes: "The more we try to pin down reality in electrons, the more it vanishes under our fingertips. The universe apparently is composed entirely of music. The human spirit is the ultimate reality of life on earth, and the spirit of the universe is the supreme reality."
