WINTER 2010Jan 22, 2010 by Rev. Christine WINTER 2010
Dear Members and Friends;
Happy New Year! As we look forward to the new year, we give thanks for all that transpired in 2009. We had some great special events, social activities, classes and services. We give our appreciation to all who helped to make our events and fund raisers a success. We applaud those that served on the Board of Directors: Sheree Garrett as President, Gene Turner as Vice-President, Rev. Pat Moore as Secretary and Rev. Hilde Pfendt as Treasurer.
At the Annual Membership meeting, Richard Long was voted on the Board of Directors, replacing out going Board member Gene Turner. Rev. Hilde Pfendt was voted to serve another term. At the January Board meeting Sheree Garrett resigned for personal reasons. We thank her for serving three years and wish her well. Gene Turner was voted back on the Board. Our new Board Officers are Gene Turner as President, Rev. Pat Moore as Vice-President, Richard Long as Secretary and Rev. Hilde Pfendt as Treasurer.
A Pot Luck and Brain Storming session has been scheduled for Sunday, February 28th, following the Sunday Service at 12:30pm. We look forward to your participation. This event is for both members and friends of DSCC. The focus of the Brain Storming session will be on new ideas for fund raisers. The Board of Directors will take this information and make plans for the year. We are looking forward to a year of inspiration, growth as well as some social fun together.
Some special dates that we are looking at; the first being March 21st, which is the Spring Equinox, and the other is during Holy Week which begins March 28 and ends with Easter on April 4th. More information will be coming out in the next mailing.
So much is happening in the worldly scene. It is an opportunity for us to put to practice in prayer what we know to be true. Please do join me in prayer. The following prayer was written for Haiti:
"Let us unify in heart and in mind knowing the Divine Presence is right here and right now, and is equally present in Haiti. Those suffering, died, and in mourning are supported in an all powerful love that inspires and gives strength and hope for rebuilding of their lives and nation. Divine Love is outpouring fulfilling prayers and opening hearts. Divine Abundance is flowing forth in providing supplies, medical care, an rescue teams. Divine Life is revealing its perfect nature in all. Divine Timing is bringing forth all in perfect timing and cooperation to quickly meet the people’s needs. Divine Adjustments are taking place this very moment blessing Haiti and its people to a bright and harmonious new future. I accept this truth, and release this prayer knowing it is done in the mind of God and being manifested in the here and now. I praise God for all the blessings already received and for all those yet to come. With a heart filled with gratitude, thank you God. Amen."

Christine August 3, 2009 Dear Members, On August 2, 2009, we held another Member Meeting to discuss the name change, brain storming, and visioning. The following is what took place and results: A list was handed out with what needed to be done and known costs for changing the name (see attached). Those in attendance responded to the question “What do we plan to achieve in changing the name?” The answers were to make it simpler to explain who we are, and to better clarify who we are, and to draw more people. It was discussed that the name isn’t a magic bullet to bringing in more people, but it is the consciousness that draws to us according to the Principle “like attracts like.” And, that regardless what we call ourselves that we still have to explain about Divine Science as our teaching and our affiliation. We moved into brainstorming which turned out to be on ideas for growth, and for laying a stronger foundation “Build it and they will come.” Here are some of the ideas: Have a 4 week introduction to Divine Science class for new comers that can be offered quarterly – possibly after Sunday Service. From the pulpit explain more clearly what we mean by “Omnipresence,” share more from our experience and have testimonies, and use more contemporary language. Define our values, and have them posted as people enter the doors. Have regular visioning sessions, and group prayer for this purpose. End of service invite people to continue the conversation of the Sunday talk. Be Divine Science! Live our teachings – be an example. During social time represent the Principle of Divine Science in our communications with others. To help communicate Divine Science to friends and new people, write a brief description that can be shared easily with others, possibly have on business card. There were six members in attendance. A poll was taken to find out how many feel strongly in changing the name now, two raised their hand. Then the question was posed who feels strongly not to change the name now, three responded; Rev. Christine as facilitator did not participate in the poll. Of these, one felt strongly that we wait to change the name until 2012 or we may find ourselves changing it again in 2012. All came into agreement to wait until 2012 while continuing to hold monthly visioning and brainstorming sessions following the Sunday Service. We would also take action on some of the brainstorming ideas. Then out of this process by 2012, Divine Guidance will bring forth a new name. Then Rev. Christine led a guided visioning. We were asked to feel what it felt like to walk into the Sanctuary, and then to find your chair and sit down? What if felt like to sing, pray and meditate? What if felt like in the closing circle, and then social time? The visions were wonderful, of a Sanctuary filled with many people, the energy was vibrant and strong, everyone was happy and excitedly talking about the message. And, those leaving were still excited and talking with their friends. This was a very productive meeting in harmony and with enthusiasm, everyone voicing their opinion, ideas, and visions. We truly appreciate everyone’s participation to move us forward on our path in Divine Right Order and Action in serving our spiritual community. We identified a number of projects during the brainstorming session. If you would like to participate in any of the above suggestions, please contact Rev. Christine or any of the Members of the Board. Remember this is your spiritual community. Again we thank you! We look forward to seeing you at our monthly visioning and brainstorming session. We have scheduled September 6, 2009, 12:30pm. Also enclosed are the quarterly financials. Love and Blessings, Rev.
